About The Jiu Jitsu Mindset
The Jiu Jitsu Mindset is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu podcast and community. It started in June 2022 with a simple idea: when you improve your Jiu Jitsu, you improve your life. Everything here comes out of that.
The podcast
Host Pete Deeley sits down with black belts, professors, competitors and lifelong practitioners to talk about what Jiu Jitsu actually does to a person — the grind, the injuries, the plateaus, the breakthroughs. More than 150 episodes and over 100 guests so far, including Rafael Lovato Jr., Chris Haueter, Steve Maxwell, Tait Fletcher, Ryan Hurst and Scott Burr.
New episodes weekly. Listen on YouTube, Spotify or Apple Podcasts, or read the episode summaries.
Who is behind it
The podcast was founded in June 2022 by Pete Deeley and Professor Lucas Rubbo. Pete hosts the show and writes most of what you will find in the BJJ Encyclopedia.
The school directory
We list 1,304 Brazilian Jiu Jitsu schools across every US state and twelve Canadian provinces, free, with no paid placement and no ranking games. If you are looking for somewhere to start, find a school near you. If you run a gym that is not listed, add it — it costs nothing.
The BJJ Encyclopedia
Plain-language guides to positions, sweeps, escapes and submissions, credited to the instructors who teach them best. We link to their channels rather than re-filming their work. Start with the encyclopedia.
What we make
- Submission Coffee — coffee for people who train early. A proud sponsor of the Momentum Martial Arts Competition Team in Reno, NV.
- Apparel — shirts for people who live on the mats.
- The Online Kids Academy — Jiu Jitsu Superheroes, for grapplers aged 7–12.
- My Jiu Jitsu Journey — an iOS app for logging your training and tracking your progression.
Get comfortable being uncomfortable
It is our tagline because it is the whole lesson. Jiu Jitsu puts you in bad positions on purpose, over and over, until being stuck stops feeling like an emergency. That skill does not stay on the mats.
